South Korea Travel Blog - Alpaca World, Nami Island and Garden of the Morning Calm

6:12 PM

We were so thrilled for our first day in Korea. Aside for the -11 degrees Celsius that welcomed us when we landed, our first day tour will be jam packed and really exciting. We purchased our tour via Klook (Click this link or use my code : 03GPG to get S$5 as soon as you sign up to KLOOK), as I've compared it if we try doing DIY it's just few dollars difference and we won't be able to go to the Alpaca World. Initially, we were torn if we would go to the Petite France and Gangchon Rail Bike but after reading tons of reviews in tripadvisor we decided not to include them to our itinerary. I've read reviews from TripAdvisor and heard from friends that there isn't much to do at Petite France aside for the picture taking; Gangchon Rail Bike would be too cold at January and if we were unlucky it would be too windy and we wouldn't enjoy the ride.
So, our tour started when were picked up at S.A cafe, Seoul Station which was just downstairs of the Airbnb we were staying at. Our first stop was the Alpaca World, where we had an amazing time playing with the alpacas. We rented one alpaca for ourselves which was good for 15minutes 10K Won, higher rate on weekends and holidays.

After having fun with the Alpacas, we had lunch on a Korean restaurant nearby the port that will embark us to Nami Island. It was a sumptuous lunch. After having our stomach full, we rode the ferry which was 15 minutes ride to go to the island. There was an option to zipline towards the island as well but with the -10 degree Celsius I don't think it was advisable.
We were given 3hrs to roam around Nami, which I can say was not enough if you want to go all over, there was also snow sledding available but we didn't try. We rented a bike and unexpectedly went to the trail where 'Winter Sonata' kdrama had a romantic bike scene. It was not romantic if your riding with your cousin and brothers LOL! but amusing. It was less crowded and we were able to enjoy the serenity near the river as well.
Last stop was at the Garden of Morning calm. During winter to early spring they held a lighting festival that you SHOULDN'T MISS. I could say it was my favorite place that we went that day. We arrive around 5.30 PM,it was almost sunset. We had a quick walk to some scenery, head for coffee to fight the cold then when the sun was down, we went around.
It was just beautiful at night. The garden illuminates everywhere, we were dazzled by the magnificent sight. What a perfect way to end the night before we head back to Seoul.
